In 1995, a group of interested
individuals met to discuss the need for a toxicological/ pharmacological
resource center in Nepal. In January 1996, the ground work laid for
what will be the first of its kind, operational information center to serve
the needs of health professionals and the general population of Nepal.
In February, United Hands to Nepal was incorporated. Two months later,
the Nepal Poison Information Center opened it doors and databases in Kathmandu,
Nepal.

Since the first poison call
was taken, United Hands to Nepal, through its the Nepal Poison Information
Center, has doubled the number of participating board members, has enlisted
the assistance of a local volunteer advisory board and has staffed the
center with three Nepalese citizens. Through its progressive tactics to
preserve and maintain the NPIC and its quality of services, UHN has been
actively involved and succeeded in seeking alliances with other aid organizations
and with the scientific community
