His Majesty King Birendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev has, in capacity as Patron of the King Mahendra Trust for Nature Conservation (KMTNC) and in accordance with the KMTNC Act-2039 B.S, re-nominated His Royal Highness Prince Gyanendra Bir Bikram Shah Chairman of the KMTNC with effect from February 26,1999.

 KMTNC's Interaction meeting

The Interaction Meeting between the King Mahendra Trust for Nature Conservation (KMTNC), its international Chapter representatives and Members of the governing Board of KMTNC was held on Thursday, December 10, 1998 under the chairmanship of Mr. Prabhakar S.J.B Rana, senior Trustee of KMTNC.

Prior to the formal interaction meeting, a briefing session was arranged for International Chapter representatives and Board Members with a view to provide an update information on current activities as well as future focus of the Trust on Wednesday December 9, 1998 at the visitor Center, KMTNC/Central Zoo.

The interaction meeting was held with the intention of the better understanding between the National and International Trustee as well as discussion on the past and present activities of the trust.

 Board Meeting

The Twenty Second meeting of the Governing Board of Trustees of the King Mahendra Trust for Nature Conservation (KMTNC) was held on Wednesday, February 10 (Magh 27,2055 B.S.) at Soaltee Holiday Inn Crowne Plaza under the august Chairmanship of His Royal Highness Prince Gyanendra Bir Bikram Shah.

This was the last meeting of the present Board as it had completed its five years tenure.

The following agendas were discussed in the meeting:

  1. Matters arising from the last Board of Trustees Meeting.
  2. Discussion on current activities and future directives.

Re-appointment

His Royal Highness Prince Gyanendra Bir Bikram Shah, in his capacity as Chairman of the King Mahendra Trust for Nature Conservation (KMTNC) and in accordance with the KMTNC Act-1982, Clause 5(F), has re-appointed Mr. Jai Pratap Rana as member secretary of the Governing Board of the Trustees of KMTNC.

 Meeting in London

His Royal Highness Prince Gyanendra Bir Bikram Shah, Chairman of KMTNC, chaired the interaction meeting with the international trustees on February 22, 1999 in London.  The interaction meeting deliberated on the future strategy of the Trust into the next millenium.

His Excellency the Royal Nepalese Ambassador to the United Kingdom Mr. Singha Bahadur Basnet was also present in the meeting.

Paper Presented

A paper on peoples' participation in Nature Conservation had been presented by Senior official of KMTNC Siddhartha B. Bajracharya during the Third National Conference in Science and Technology organized by the Royal Nepal Academy of Science and Technology from March 8 -11 1999 in Kathmandu.

The Third National Conference in Science and Technology was organized to provide an opportunity to Nepalese Scientists and technologists to assess the current status of Science and technology for national development. Over 800 scientists and technologists from Nepal and several prominent scholars from abroad had attended the conference.

The paper presented was an attempt to describe as how the King Mahendra Trust for Nature Conservation has used its innovative approach of involving the local people in all stages of its conservation initiatives. It also explained, that the holistic and integrated approach is the realistic method of addressing the complex environmental problems and that appropriate site-specific solutions to these problems must be used rather than single approach.

Award Received

     The 48th PATA Annual Conferences industry council awarded a prestigious award to King Mahendra Trust for Nature Conservation in recognition of the excellent achievement in the preservation of forest in Nepal and on their outstanding performance at Annapurna Conservation Area Project during the meeting of industry council held at congress center in Nagoya.Pata.gif (4594 bytes)

     Mr. Basant R. Mishra, Board Member of PATA and NTB highlighted on the policy and activities of KMTNC at the function. Pacific Asia Travel Association has encouraged its members to present the successful case studies of their respective countries in the issues of environmental protection, human resources, cultural heritage, marketing and communication at their board meeting in Cheju Island, Korea in 1998. In this regard two of the PATA board members representing Nepal submitted the case studies papers of KMTNC along with the videocassettes.

     On behalf of KMTNC, the award was jointly received by Mr. Basant R. Mishra and Mr. R.R. Pandey, board members of PATA representing Nepal.
