A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on April 20, 2007 by the Embassy of India, Kathmandu with Pokhara Sub-Metropolitan City, Pokhara and Shree Bhadrakali Higher Secondary School in District Kaski for providing a grant of NRs.1,92,82,541/- for the construction of a school building for the Primary Section of Shree Bhadarakali Higher Secondary School, Pokhara.
Under the MOU a monitoring committee has been constituted consisting of representatives from the school management committee, Pokhara Sub-Metropolitan City and District Education Office to oversee the project, supervise the construction work and ensure effective utilization of the grant.
Shree Bhadrakali Higher Secondary School is a community based school established in 1951 as primary school. Primary school building of the school was constructed with Indian financial assistance through central Co-ordination Board (CC Board) of the Indian Embassy in 1959. The school was later upgraded as Higher Secondary and now planning to run the bachelors degree. The school is the first leading school in the region where majority students are from Gorkha ex-servicemen families. At present, the school has 1800 students. Due to lack of physical infrastructure for the upgraded school and increased number of students, the school authorities have requested GOI for construction of a separate building for the primary section in Ward number 13, Pokhara. The project, which will be the second project in the education sector in District Kaski, will greatly contribute to the development of education in this area by providing improved infrastructure for learning.
The project is part of the on-going bilateral economic cooperation programme between India and Nepal, under which more than 190 projects are being realized in the sectors of education, health, community development and infrastructure covering almost all the districts of Nepal with an outlay of over NRs.2000 crores. The new hope for peace and development in Nepal ushered in by historic changes and the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement stands to add greater vigour and momentum to developmental cooperation between India and Nepal.
