Indian Assistance of NRs. 33 lakhs for school building in District Bara

In a public function held on April 19, 2007, Ambassador of India, laid the foundation stone for new school building of Shree Kankali Secondary School at Simaraungadh in district Bara, being constructed with a grant assistance of NRs.33,09,774/- from the Government of India.

This is first educational project undertaken by the Government of India in District Bara as part of the India-Nepal Economic Cooperation Programme. The project will be implemented by DDC, Bara with Oversight Committee consisting of representatives from DDC, School Management Committee and District Education Office for monitoring of the project to ensure quality construction and effective utilization of the grant. The new infrastructure being constructed with the cooperation of Government of India would create an improved environment for learning in the school and contribute to the development of education in the area.

Shree Kankali Secondary School, located at Simraungarh was established in 1951. The school is running classes from I to X having about 1450 students. It is one of the oldest school in the Central Terai region. Government of India's assistance for the school's new building will enable it to overcome the constraint caused by lack of adequate classrooms.

In his address at the function, Ambassador of India underlined the importance of strengthening of human resource development for Nepal's overall progress and noted that the primacy being given to educational and health infrastructure as part of the India-Nepal Economic Cooperation Programme was in accord with this priority. He mentioned that the various cooperation initiatives being undertaken under the India-Nepal Economic Cooperation Programme were reflective of the strength of friendship between the two countries and manifested the determination of the Government and the people of India to support the people of Nepal in realizing their objective of peace and development.

Currently, under the ongoing bilateral economic cooperation programme between India and Nepal, more than 190 projects are being realized in the sectors of education, health, community development and infrastructure covering almost all the districts of Nepal with an outlay of over NRs.2000 crores.
