Indian Assistance of NRs.19.28 Million for School Building in District Kaski

In a public function held on July 26, 2007, on behalf of Ambassador of India, Counsellor (Economic Cooperation), Embassy of India laid the foundation stone for the new building of Shree Bhadrakali Higher Secondary School, Pokhara, being constructed with a grant assistance of NRs.19.28 million from the Government of India.

Shree Bhadrakali Higher Secondary School was established in 1951 as a community-based primary school and its building was constructed with the Indian financial assistance in 1959. The school was later upgraded to higher secondary level. Presently, it has over 1800 students. The new infrastructure being constructed with the assistance of Government of India will help the school in addressing its current space constraint and meeting the requirements of its growing number of students.

The project will be implemented by Pokhara Sub-Metropolitan City Office, while an Oversight Committee consisting of representatives from School Management Committee, District Education Office and the Sub-Metropolitan City Office will oversee the project for its effective and timely implementation.

Conveying the message from Ambassador of India during the function, Counsellor (Economic Cooperation) reiterated India’s commitment to extend all possible assistance to the people and Government of Nepal in their endeavour to seek lasting peace and development. He underlined the importance of educational infrastructure for Nepal's future development and highlighted the primacy being given to the education sector in the India-Nepal Economic Cooperation Programme.

This is the second educational infrastructure project with the Indian assistance in District Kaski, and overall, is part of as part of more than 220 large and small projects currently being realized under the India-Nepal Economic Cooperation Programme in the sectors of education, health, community development and infrastructure covering all the districts of Nepal with an outlay of over NRs.20 billions.
