Indian Assistance of NRs.28 Million for Hospital in District Dolakha

A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed on July 20, 2007 by the Embassy of India, Kathmandu with District Development Committee, Dolakha and the District Public Health Office, Dolakha for providing grant assistance of NRs.28 million for the construction of a 10 bed hospital with staff quarter, boundary wall and provision of hospital furniture and equipment. The project will be implemented by DDC, Dolakha.

Under the MOU, a monitoring committee has been constituted comprising representatives from the hospital management committee, DDC and District Health Office, Dolakha to oversee the project for its effective and timely implementation.

Singati Bazaar is the main trading centre of 22 VDCs of northern and eastern parts of district Dolakha. Presently people in this area have to travel upto 40 Km. to Charikot for their healthcare needs, as there is no health centre in the vicinity of these VDCs. The proposed health centre at Singathi Bazaar will provide quicker and better health care services to about 80,000 people.

This is the second infrastructure project undertaken by the Government of India in Dolakha, including one ongoing school project in that district under the India-Nepal Economic Cooperation Programme. Overall, the project is part of more than 220 large and small projects currently being realized with the Indian assistance in the sectors of education, health, community development and infrastructure covering all the districts of Nepal with an outlay of over NRs.20 billion.
