Indian Assistance of NRs.13 Million for School in District Nawalparasi

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on July 13, 2007 by the Embassy of India, Kathmandu with the District Development Committee, Nawalparasi and Shree Janata Lower Secondary School, Arungkhola, Nawalparasi for providing grant assistance of NRs.13 million for construction of the school’s new building and compound wall.

Shree Janata Lower Secondary School, located in Nayabelhani VDC of Nawalparasi, was established in 1968 and provides education from class I to VIII to more than 700 students, of which over 60 percent are girls. The school, in addition to serving Nayabelhani VDC, also fulfills the educational requirements of students coming from the adjoining VDCs of Rakachuli, Mainaghat and Dumkibas, which together account for a population of more than 32,000. The project with the cooperation of Government of India will help the school in addressing its current space constraint and creating requisite infrastructure in keeping with its high educational standards and growing number of students.

Under the MOU, a monitoring committee has been constituted comprising representatives from the school management committee, DDC and District Education Office to oversee the project for its effective and timely implementation.

This is the fourth educational project undertaken by Government of India in Nawalparasi under the India-Nepal Economic Cooperation Programme, and is part of more than 220 large and small projects currently being realized with the Indian assistance in the sectors of education, health, community development and infrastructure covering all the districts of Nepal with an outlay of over NRs. 20 billion.
