Indian Assistance of NRs.18 Million for Campus Building in Dhading

In a public function held on July 11, 2007 in District Dhading, Mr. Pranay Verma, Counsellor (Economic Cooperation) inaugurated on behalf of Ambassador of India Mr. Shiv Shankar Mukherjee laid the foundation stone for the new building of Neelkantha Campus at Dhading Bensee being constructed with grant assistance of NRs.18 million from the Government of India.

Established in the year 2000 as the first public campus of the district, Neelakantha Campus is an extension of the Neelakantha Higher Secondary School of Dhading Bensee, one of Dhading’s most reputed schools. In the absence of its own building, the campus presently functions from the school building itself, which already has over 2000 students. The campus presently has about 300 students, but this number is likely to rise further, as the new infrastructure being created with the Indian assistance will enable more specialised streams, including management and science, to be added in the near future.

This is first educational infrastructure project in district Dhading under the on-going India-Nepal Economic Cooperation Programme. The project will be implemented by DDC, Dhading, with an Oversight Committee consisting of representatives from DDC, Campus Management Committee and District Education Office to oversee the project for its effective and timely implementation.

Addressing the function, Ambassador of India expressed the hope that the new infrastructure would create an improved environment for learning in the campus and contribute to further development of education in Dhading and neighbouring districts. He underlined the importance of educational infrastructure for Nepal's national development and highlighted the primacy being given to the education sector in the India-Nepal Economic Cooperation Programme.

Currently, under the ongoing bilateral economic cooperation programme between India and Nepal, more than 220 large and small projects are being realized in the sectors of education, health, community development and infrastructure covering almost all the districts of Nepal with an outlay of over NRs.20 billions.
