Two separate Memoranda of Understanding were signed on June 20, 2007 by the Embassy of India, Kathmandu with the concerned District Development Committees and school/campus authorities for the construction of new buildings of (a) Shree Gokundeshwar Higher Secondary School in District Dhankuta with a grant assistance of NRs. 5.3 million and (b) Shringeeshor Campus, Ranibas in District Gulmi with a grant assistance of NRs. 19.1 million.
Shree Gokundeshwar Higher Secondary School, established in 1958, is among the oldest and reputed schools in District Dhankuta, with more than three hundred students. Shringeeshor Campus, established in 2001 under the affiliation of Tribhuvan University, is one of the three campuses located in Gulmi and has over 1400 students. The current projects with the cooperation of Government of India will help these institutions in addressing the current space constraint being faced by them and creating requisite infrastructure in keeping with their high educational standards and growing number of students.
Under the present MOU, monitoring committees have been constituted for each project consisting of representatives from the respective school/campus management committee, DDC and District Education Office to oversee the project for its effective and timely implementation.
These are first and second educational project respectively in Districts Dhankuta and Gulmi undertaken by the Government of India under the India-Nepal Economic Cooperation Programme, which presently has more than 200 large and small projects being realized in the sectors of education, health, community development and infrastructure covering all the districts of Nepal with an outlay of over NRs.2000 crores.
