A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on May 17, 2007 by the Embassy of India, Kathmandu with District Development Committee, Pyuthan and Shree Mukti Secondary School, Vijaynagar, Pyuthan for providing a grant of NRs.2,80,28,661/- for the construction of new building and girls’ hostel for the school.
This is the first project in the education sector in District Pyuthan being undertaken with the assistance of Government of India. Under the MOU signed for the project, a monitoring committee has been constituted consisting of representatives from the campus management committee, DDC and District Education Officer to oversee the project, supervise the construction work and ensure effective utilization of the grant.
As a remote hilly district of Nepal’s mid-western region, Pyuthan lacks institutions for quality education, particularly in science and technology, and at present, there are very few +2 level schools providing education in science stream. Mukti Secondary School, located in Vijaynagar VDC of Pyuthan, is one such school, with more than 900 students, but with highly dilapidate physical infrastructure, built from stone, mud and wood. The school is in dire need of renovation of the existing building and construction of new class room block for upgraded + 2 level classes. The new infrastructure being built with the assistance of Government of India will help the school overcome this constraint and maintain its high educational standards.
This is part of more than 200 projects currently being implemented under the India-Nepal Economic Cooperation Programme in the sectors of education, health, community development and infrastructure covering almost all the districts of Nepal with an outlay of over NRs. two thousand crores.
