Indian Assistance of Nrs. 40 million for Auditorium in Kathmandu University, Dhulikhel and School Building in District Kavre

At a well-attended public function held on May 15, 2007, on behalf of Ambassador of India, Counsellor (Economic Cooperation), Embassy of India inaugurated the new auditorium of Kathmandu University at Dhulikhel in District Kavre constructed with a grant assistance of NRs.28.98 millions from the Government of India. The project, which was executed by the Dhulikhel Municipality, is the first one undertaken by the Government of India in District Kavre as part of the India-Nepal Economic Cooperation Programme. The 320-seats auditorium is named after the renowned Indian scientist Sir C.V.Raman, symbolizing the focus of Kathmandu University on science and engineering disciplines, and will go a long way in enriching the university’s academic environment.

At another public function on the same day in district Kavre, Counsellor (Economic Cooperation), on behalf of Ambassador of India, also laid the foundation stone for the new building of Shree Bhagwati Higher Secondary School at Kharelthok VDC of District Kavre being constructed with grant assistance of NRs.11.13 millions from the Government of India. The project will be implemented by DDC, Kavre. Established in 1952, the school is one of the oldest in that area and is the only higher secondary school in Kharelthok and four other adjoining VDCs. It presently has 650 students and runs from tin-roofed and dilapidated classrooms. The new infrastructure being constructed with the cooperation of Government of India would create an improved environment for learning in the school and contribute to the development of education in the area.

Conveying the message from Ambassador of India during these functions, Counsellor (Economic Cooperation), Embassy of India underlined the importance of educational infrastructure for Nepal's overall national development and highlighted the primacy being given to the educational sector in the India-Nepal Economic Cooperation Programme.

Currently, under the ongoing bilateral economic cooperation programme between India and Nepal, more than 200 projects are being realized in the sectors of education, health, community development and infrastructure covering almost all the districts of Nepal with an outlay of over NRs.2000 crores.
