Indian Assistance for New Campus Building in District Dailekh

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on May 11, 2007 by the Embassy of India, Kathmandu with District Development Committee, Dailekh and Narayan Campus, Rampur, Dailekh for the provision of grant assistance of NRs.1,91,04,517/- by the Government of India for the construction of the new campus building.

This is the first project in the education sector in District Dailekh being undertaken with the assistance of Government of India. Under the MOU signed for the project, a monitoring committee has been constituted consisting of representatives from the campus management committee, DDC and District Education Officer to oversee the project, supervise the construction work and ensure effective utilization of the grant.

Established in 1995, Narayan Campus, Rampur is the first public campus in Dailekh district. It conducts diploma courses for humanities, social sciences and education under affiliation from the Tribhuvan University. The campus has about 350 students, including many from the neighbouring districts of Jajarkot and Kalikot. The classes are presently held in two four-room blocks, which are insufficient to cater to the current strength of students, which is likely to grow in the future. The new infrastructure to be constructed with the assistance of Government of India will significantly ease the space constraint of the campus and improve its ability to meet the requirements of higher education in Dailekh and adjoining districts while maintaining high academic standards.

The project is part of the ongoing bilateral economic cooperation programme between India and Nepal, under which more than 200 projects are being realized in the sectors of education, health, community development and infrastructure covering almost all the districts of Nepal with an outlay of over NRs. 2000 crores.
