Indian Assistance of NRs. 5 million for school in District Darchula

At a public function held on May 1, 2007, Ambassador of India laid the foundation stone for the new building of Shree Pashupati Siksha Mandir at Khalanga in District Darchula being constructed with a grant assistance of NRs.50,10,560/- from the Government of India. The project will be implemented by DDC, Darchula, with an Oversight Committee consisting of representatives from DDC, School Management Committee and District Education Office to monitor of the project’s satisfactory implementation and effective utilization of the grant.

Shree Pashupati Shiksha Mandir was established in 1994 as a primary school and presently has 250 students from class I to V. The project envisages construction of a four-storied building with 16 classrooms, which would address the space constraint being faced by the school.

This is the first educational project being undertaken with the assistance of Government of India in this far-western district of Nepal. In addition, one ambulance has been gifted by Government of India to the District Hospital, Darchula in January 2006.

In his address at the function, Ambassador noted the emphasis being given to educational infrastructure as part of the India-Nepal Economic Cooperation Programme and expressed the hope that the new school building would usefully serve the educational needs in that area. He also reiterated the commitment of Government of India to assist the people of Nepal in achieving peace, stability and development and noted that more GOI-assisted projects would be undertaken in the underdeveloped far-western districts of Nepal.

Currently, under the ongoing bilateral economic cooperation programme between India and Nepal, more than 200 projects are being realized in the sectors of education, health, community development and infrastructure covering almost all the districts of Nepal with an outlay of over NRs.2000 crores.
