Indian cooperation for NRs. 27.6 million for construction of classroom block, hostel block and compound wall for Sushma Koirala Memorial Nursing Campus, Sankhu, Kathmandu


A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed today between Embassy of India, District Development Committee, Kathmandu and Sushma Koirala Memorial Campus, Sankhu, Kathmandu for the construction of classroom block, hostel block and compound wall for Sushma Koirala Memorial Nursing Campus, Sankhu, Kathmandu. The campus run by Sushma Koirala Memorial Trust, is conducting three years course for Staff Nurse, Proficiency Certificate Level Programme since November, 2000. The campus in Kathmandu is affiliated to the Council for Technical Education & Vocational Training (CTEVT) w.e.f. September 22, 2000. It is also recognised by Nepal Nursing Council. 120 students will benefit from the project.

The project to be executed by District Development Committee, Kathmandu will be yet another landmark in India-Nepal Economic Cooperation in the all important areas of health and education. In the area of health alone, the India-Nepal cooperation is witnessing implementation/consideration of implementation of five small projects in different Districts including Blood Transfusion Service Centre, Lahan, Siraha, Janakpur Nursing Campus, Janakpur, Mechi Zonal Hospital, Bhadrapur, Jhapa, and a Nursing Campus at Sewa Guthi, Biratnagar, Morang. The large projects include Nepal-Bharat Maitri Baktawari Hari Eye Hospital, Kapilvastu, the establishment of a 200 bed Emergency & Trauma Centre at Bir Hospital, Kathmandu and the B.P. Koirala Institute of Health Sciences at Dharan.

The above project is part of 137 projects in the health, education & infrastructure sectors with NRs.1800 crores being implemented in Nepal.
