Indian Assistance of NRs.2,67,77,780/- for Shree Janhit Secondary School, Jomsom, Mustang and assistance of NRs.2,66,40,439/- for Shree Mahakaruna Sakyapa Vidyalaya, Lomangthang, Upper Mustang

The two school building for Shree Janahit Secondary School, Jomsom, Mustang and Shree Mahakaruna Sakyapa Vidyalaya, Lomangthang, Upper Mustang was inaugurated by Dr. Kheya Bhattacharya, Minister(Economic Cooperation), Embassy of India, on October 13, 2006, in the presence of the representatives of local Government and community leaders at a public gathering. The need for school building with provision of furniture for Shree Janhit Secondary School, Jomsom, at a cost of NRs.2,67,77,780/- and school building, hostel, teacher’s quarters and furniture, at a cost of NRs.2,66,40,439/-, had long been felt by the school and local communities. The additional infrastructure will greatly contribute to quality education by providing better environment for learning for the boys and girls in the remote area of Lomangthang and Jomsom. These two school projects are the first educational projects in Mustang District undertaken by the Government of India under the India-Nepal Economic Cooperation Programme.

The commitment of India to triple the development assistance and double the scholarships for Nepalese students to strengthen and diversify bilateral economic cooperation, following Prime Minister of Nepal’s visit to India in June 2006, was reiterated during the function as well as the need for development of education as the most important requirement for the overall development in Nepal. Other speakers at the meeting expressed deep appreciation for India’s continuing contribution in the education and infrastructure sector, extending upto the remote areas of Nepal.

Currently the bilateral cooperation programme between the two countries is witnessing the realization of 160 projects in education, health and infrastructure sector in 75 districts of Nepal with an outlay of NRs. 1800 crores.
