The 28th Meeting of the Joint Technical Level India-Nepal Boundary Committee (JTC) was held in Kathmandu on 21-22 December 2006. Prior to the JTC, a preparatory Survey Officials Meeting of both countries was held in Kathmandu on 18-20 December 2006.
The Indian side was led by Major General M. Gopal Rao, Sureveyor General of India and the Nepalese side was led by Mr. Toya Nath Baral, Director General of Survey Department. The Indian delegation comprised senior officials of Ministry of External Affairs, Ministry of Home Affairs, Embassy of India, Kathmandu, Survey of India and representatives from neighbouring state governments of India. The delegation of Nepal comprised senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Forests and Soil Conservation, Ministry of Land Reform and Management, Ministry of Law Justice and Parliamentary Affairs and Department of Survey.
The two sides welcomed the progress made in respect of mandated boundary tasks including fair mapping of boundary of strip sheets. The JTC has successfully completed more than 98 percent of mapping work.
The 28th Meeting of JTC decided to recommend the extension of its mandate by six months till June 2007 to complete the remaining tasks. The JTC has also directed the concerned officials to complete the office work and field work with vigour and with the same spirit of mutual cooperation.
The next JTC Meeting will be held at New Delhi in March 2007.
