A 546 litre capacity Refrigerator was handed over by the Embassy of India to President of Nepal Red Cross Society Blood Transfusion Service Centre, Ghorahi, Dang district

A 546 litre capacity Refrigerator was handed over by the Embassy of India to President of Nepal Red Cross Society Blood Transfusion Service Centre, Ghorahi, Dang district on March 28, 2006. The refrigerator will be used as a Blood Bank and would benefit 5,13,575 people of Dang. A large number of pilgrims visiting the holy Sworgadwari temple every year frequently fall ill and require timely blood transfusion. The gift would enable the Blood Bank of Nepal Red Cross Society, Dang, to solve the problem to a significant extent.

As part of its cooperation programme in the health sector in Nepal, Government of India has been supporting construction of health clinics, hospitals, goiter control programme, cataract operations, gifting of ambulances and health equipment, telemedicine, providing medical expertise through services of medical specialists from India, apart from major projects such as the Bisheshwar Prasad Koirala Institute of Health Sciences (BPKIHS), at Dharan, and the forthcoming trauma centre at the Bir Hospital.

The cooperation programme has enabled people living in remote or under developed areas of Nepal to access medical infrastructure elsewhere in the country. It is part of the bilateral economic cooperation programme between the two countries that is currently witnessing the realization of 135 projects in health, education and infrastructure sectors in 61 districts of Nepal at a cost of NRs. 1400 crores.
