Indian Assistance of NRs.2,59,06,235/- for Mahendra Multiple Campus, Dharan, Sunsari

Ambassador of India, Shri Shiv Shankar Mukherjee, inaugurated the campus building of Mahendra Multiple Campus, Dharan, Sunsari on August 18, 2006 in the presence of the representatives of local Government and community leaders at a public gathering. The new 3 storied building, constructed at a cost of NRs.2,59,06,235/-, named “Nepal Bharat Maitri Shiksha Bhawan”, will improve the educational infrastructure and directly benefit more than 4500 students of Sunsari and neighbouring districts of Morang, Saptari and Dhankuta.

In his address, Ambassador reiterated the commitment of India to contribute for development of education in Nepal. Other important speakers and educationists addressed the large gathering, expressing deep appreciation for India’s continued contribution in the education sector, important and essential for Nepal’s development.

As part of the ongoing implementation of 149 projects by the Government of India in the education, health and infrastructure sectors in 75 districts of Nepal with an outlay of NRs. 1800 crores, more than 66,000 students have benefited in the education sector alone. India has tripled its commitment under the Small Development Projects Scheme and doubled its scholarships for Nepalese students to strengthen and diversify bilateral relations with Nepal through economic cooperation, following Prime Minister of Nepal’s visit to India in June 2006.
