At a public function held on October 23, 2006 at Lainchaur, Kathmandu, Ambassador of India laid the foundation stone for improvement of Storm Water Drainage system in Lazimpat-Samakhushi-Ranibari Area. The function was well attended by representatives of Kathmandu Metropolitan City Office, local administration, community leaders and large number of people from the area.
Government of India has sanctioned assistance of NRs.1,36,54,926/- to Kathmandu Metropolitan City Office for improvement of Storm Water Drainage system in Lazimpat-Samakhushi-Ranibari Area. A Memorandum of Understanding was signed on October 5, 2004 between Government of India and Government of Nepal for the storm water drainage improvement project.
The project is being implemented by Kathmandu Metropolitan City Office. An Oversight Committee consisting of the Section Chief, Kathmandu Metropolitan City Office, Attaché and Engineer of Embassy of India, has been constituted to oversee the project. A Users’ Committee consisting of prominent residents of Samakhushi area has also been constituted. An agreement between Users’ Committee and Kathmandu Metropolitan City Office has been signed on August 8, 2006 for execution of work in Sakakhushi area.
Implementation of the above project would go a long way in improving the drainage system in Lazimpat-Samakhushi-Ranibari Area.
Currently the bilateral cooperation programme between the two countries is witnessing the realisation of 160 projects in education, health and infrastructure sector in all 65 districts of Nepal with an outlay of NRs.1,800 crores. These are ongoing projects, and distinct from NRs.1600 crores economic package announced during the visit of Prime Minister Koirala to India.
