Indian cooperation grant of IRs.46,36,043/- gifting of a Hydraulic Excavator Machine to Pithuwa Irrigation Management Committee, Chitwan

A Memoranda of Understanding (MOU) was signed on 22nd November 2006 by the Embassy of India, Kathmandu with District Development Committee, Chitwan and Pithuwa Irrigation Management Committee, Pithuwa VDC, district Chitwan regarding gifting of a Hydraulic Excavator Machine to and Pithuwa Irrigation Management Committee.

Under the MoU, Government of India will be gifting a Hydraulic Excavator Machine costing IRs.46,36,0436/- to the Pithuwa Irrigation Management Committee for clearing canals and constructing dams for irrigation purposes. About 15000 people living in Pithuwa VDC and more than 1800 hectares of agricultural land will be immediately directly benefited by the machine for their economic development. District Chitwan is already experiencing development under the India-Nepal Cooperation Programme, through two other educational projects that include (i) construction of library building for Birendra Multiple Campus, Bharatpur, Chitwan and (ii) construction of campus building, hostel & boundary wall for Madi Campus, Bagauda 3, Basantpur, Madi, Chitwan.

At present 160 projects completed or being implemented under the India-Nepal Cooperation Programme in 65 districts of Nepal in the field of education, health and infrastructure with an outlay of NRs.2000 crores have already impacted on 78% of Nepal’s population. The success of the Small Development Project Scheme has encouraged the Government of India to triple its commitment under it, so enunciated during the visit of Prime Minister of Nepal in June, 2006.

Government of India's commitment to strengthening and diversifying relations with Nepal through economic cooperation is steadfast. The benefits of further intensification of such cooperation for the people of Nepal will be consolidated in the coming months following the historic Comprehensive Peace Agreement on 21st November 2006.
