INDIAN ASSISTANCE OF NRs.2,99,73,484/- FOR CONSTRUCTION OF GIRLS’ HOSTEL AT TRIBHUVAN UNIVERSITY, KATHMANDU |
Ambassador of India, Mr. Shiv Shankar Mukherjee, laid the foundation stone for the construction of girls’ hostel building at Tribhuvan University on March 16, 2006 in the presence of the representatives of local Government and campus authorities. India’s association with the oldest and the most prestigious academic institution of higher education in Nepal, with constituent campuses all over the country, with over 2,00,000 students enrolled, transcends decades, with setting up of hostel facilities, a world class library and specialist departments in chemistry, botany etc. in the late 50s and early 60s. Tribhuvan University have extensive collaborative links and bilateral agreements with various universities and institutions in India to accumulate, advance and disseminate knowledge. The hostel building named “Nepal-Bharat Maitri Kanya Chhatravas” will be constructed with grant assistance of Nrs.2,99,73,484/- from Government of India. The long-felt need for a girls’ hostel that will be available to more than 100 girls will now be fulfilled.
The construction of new hostel building will provide a conducive and secure environment for girls coming from all parts of Nepal to pursue higher studies. This project is a part of 133 developmental projects in the key areas of education, health and infrastructure being carried out in 61 districts in Nepal, with an outlay of NRs. 1400 crores, being carried out by the Government of India in close cooperation with Nepal.
