A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) has been signed today between the Embassy of India, the District Development Committee, Rupendehi and Bhairahawa Multiple Campus, Siddarthanagar, Rupendehi. Government of India will be providing grant assistance of NRs.2,57,42,658/- for construction of postgraduate building, girl’s hostel with kitchen.

A monitoring committee has been constituted for the project consisting of the Chairman, Campus Management Committee, Engineer, DDC/DTO, Rupendehi and District Education Officer, Rupendehi to oversee the project and supervise construction and ensure proper utilization of the grant assistance.

About 2500 students including 850 girl students study at the Bhairahawa Multiple Campus. The need for a PG building and a girls’ hostel had been long felt by the local community and it is hoped that the hostel building will greatly contribute in giving more access to higher education for the girls in Rupendehi and adjoining districts of Nawalparasi and Kapilvastu.

The project not only stands as a testament to the deepening ties of India-Nepal Economic Cooperation, but also is an example of India’s commitment in strengthening and diversifying this cooperation in education. This is a part of the 137 developmental projects in 61 districts of Nepal in the areas of education, health and infrastructure, with an outlay of about 1400 crores.
