Indo-Nepal Economic Cooperation of NRs. 2,99,76,846.00 for
Rajkulo Rehabilitation Project

Ambassador of India laid the foundation stone for the Lalitpur Rajkulo Project that will be renovated and revitalized under the India-Nepal Economic Cooperation Programme at a cost of NRs. 2,99,76,846.00. The traditional method of supplying water through stone irrigation canals has existed in Nepal over centuries. The present canal system that takes a route of 1296 meters long starting from Tikabhairav in Lele, VDC ending at the Lalitpur town would be benefitting six VDCs totalling more than 40,000 population. It will also provide water for irrigation through out the year for about six hundred hectares of land. The restoration of the channel apart from giving water to immediate beneficiaries will help reviving the long-lost architecture and engineering skills that are the legacy of Nepal. The environment and Heritage Conservation Nepal (EHCN) and the Lalitpur municipality are coordinating to have this project implemented within 18 months.
Government of India remains committed to focusing attention for developing infrastructure as one of the three pillars of development in any country, the other two pillars being education and health. As a friendly neighbour willing to share Nepal’s development challenges, India with its experience reiterates its commitment to strengthen the links of bilateral economic cooperation in Nepal through this project which is expected to be a shining symbol of economic cooperation in a vital area using traditional engineering.
