Press Release of 2005
No. Kat/46/2005
June 22 , 2005

No requirement of import permit for export of ginger to India

In response to a question on export of Ginger to India, the Embassy clarified the following:

Although import of fresh ginger into India is restricted and requires import permit, Government of India has decided that import of fresh ginger from Nepal would be allowed freely, without an import permit. This special dispensation for Nepal should remove the difficulties being faced by Nepalese farmers and exporters of ginger.

As part of its continuous efforts to facilitate Nepal’s exports to India, Government of India had in February 2005 agreed to give for Nepalese exports of farm products a concession of 50% on fees charged for quarantine checks in India. This concession has been made exclusively for Nepal. This measure will, in particular, benefit farmers in Nepal.
