INDIAN ASSISTANCE OF NRS.4.7 MILLION FOR NEPAL ART COUNCIL, KATHMANDU

A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed today between the Embassy of India, Kathmandu Metropolitan City Office and Nepal Art Council, Babarmahal, Kahtmandu for construction of Gallery and Boundary Wall for the Nepal Art Council Building. The project is being undertaken under India-Nepal Economic Cooperation Programme with funding by Government of India amounting to NRs. 46,57,053.

For all art lovers in Kathmandu and Nepal, the Nepal Art Council remains a focal point for tasteful art exhibitions and intellectual discussions. In the past Gorvernment of India has cooperated in setting up a small library in the Art Council through construction of infrastructure and gift of books. In recent times the famous travelling exhibition of National Museum, New Delhi the Ajanta Exhibition depicting the famous art of Ajanta and Elora in India was exhibited in Nepal Art Council from January 5-19, 2005 and was visited by art lovers in Nepal.

As a friendly neighbour, India’s commitment for cooperation with Nepal in various developmental sectors including education, health, infrastructure remains unstinted. Government of India through this project conveys the goodwill and love that the people of India have for their Nepalese brethren in walking the path of development together. This project will not only be a shining example in the area of cooperation & education but also be a focal point in culture.
