INDIA-NEPAL ECONOMIC COOPERATION IN CONSTRUCTING POLYTECHNICS WILL GIVE A FILLIP TO HIGHER EDUCATION IN NEPAL.

As part of cooperation in strengthening the education sector a polytechnic is, proposed to be established in Hetauda, under the India-Nepal bilateral economic cooperation programme. Dr. R. K. Suri, Head of the Department of Technical Assistance of India's premier agency in education consultancy (EdCIL), and Mr. Manish Gupta, Under Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs of India, gave a presentation in this context on the 5th of December 2005.

The proposed polytechnic is one among the five polytechnic institutes being established with Indian assistance in Nepal as institutes of excellence. Work on one of them in Biratnagar has already begun.

The one proposed to be set up in Hetauda will train students in various branches of engineering, keeping in mind the market demand in and around Hetauda and other industrial townships in Nepal.

15 courses have been identified for teaching by an international faculty of Indian and Nepalese experts.

The proposed cost for setting up the institute and the faculty is IRs. 23 crores. The institute will be fully equipped to meet the present day demands, of upgradation and with accreditation from Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT) and will be producing engineers capable of competing in the international market.
