GOI Assistance of Nrs. 2.72 crores for Mechi Zonal Hospital in Bhadrapur and Jhapa

Ambassador of India, Shri Shiv Shankar Mukherjee today laid the foundation stone for construction of a 25-Bed Gynae Hospital and provision of furniture & equipment to Mechi Zonal Hospital in Bhadrapur, Jhapa with GOI assistance of NRs.2.72 crores and also handed over scientific equipment worth of NRs.3,31,332/- to Mechi Multiple Campus, Jhapa.

Health care is vital for nation building. It is the aim of developing countries to ensure that health care is affordable and within easy reach of its citizens. Towards this end, a developmental concern that India shares with Nepal is the need for improved mother and child care facilities in Nepal. India has already shared its experience and expertise in this sector with Nepal in the past (Shree Panch Indra Rajya Laxmi Devi Paropkar Maternity Hospital) and continues to do so through this project. The immediate beneficiaries of this project would be over three and a half lakhs women out of the total population of 7,33,040 in District Jhapa.

The project will be executed by the Bhadrapur Municipality Bhadrapur, Jhapa. An oversight committee consisting of the Engineer of the Municipality, Medical Superintendent Mechi Zonal Hospital and Member of Mechi Zonal Hospital Development Committee has been constituted to oversee and supervise the project.

Though such small projects, the impact and benefit are immediate to the users. The Government of India through such projects reiterates its commitment to strengthen cooperation with Nepal in the health and education sector for setting up health infrastructure and gifting books and scientific equipment to educational institutions in Nepal.
