Indian Assistance of NRs.29.84 Million for Road in District Dhanusha
 

A  Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on January 9, 2008 by the Embassy of India, Kathmandu with the Greater Janakpur Area Development Council, Janakpurdham, Dhanusha for providing a grant assistance of NRs.29.84 million for construction and repair of road from Jaladh Bridge to Ram Temple in Janakpurdham, Dhanusha, under the India-Nepal Economic Cooperation Programme.

Janakpurdham, headquarter of Dhanusha, is one of the important religious and tourism place of Nepal and is also famous as the birth place of Goddess Sita and the city of temples. Most of the roads in the city are either in gravel condition or damaged. The road from Jaladh Bridge to Ram Temple in Janakpurdham being restored with the assistance of Government of India will provide smooth access to the pilgrims from other districts as well as to the residents of Janakpur city. 

Under the MOU, an oversight committee consisting of engineering and administrative experts from Greater Janakpur Area Development Council will be constituted to oversee the project for its effective and timely implementation.
           
This is among the eleven development projects undertaken by the Government of India in Dhanusha in recent years, apart from 5 ambulances gifted to different organisations in the District under the India-Nepal Economic Cooperation Programme. Overall, it is part of more than 265 large and small projects currently being implemented under the India-Nepal Economic Cooperation Programme in the sectors of education, health, community development and infrastructure covering all the districts of Nepal with an outlay of over NRs.21.5 billions.
