Indian Assistance of NRs. 48.21 Millions for Campus Buildings in Districts Surkhet and Dailekh
 

At separate public functions held on March 11 and 12, 2008, on behalf of Ambassador of India, Counsellor (Economic Cooperation), Embassy of India inaugurated the new classroom and library blocks of Surkhet Campus at Birendranagar in district Surkhet and laid the foundation stone for new building of Narayan Campus at Rampur in district Dailekh. Government of India has provided grant assistance of NRs.29.11 millions and NRs.19.10 millions respectively for these two projects under the India-Nepal Economic Cooperation Programme.

Established in 1972, Surkhet Campus is one of the premier centres of higher education in district Surkhet and has more than 3200 students enrolled in programmes ranging from Intermediate to Post Graduate levels. Narayan Campus at Rampur, established in 1995, is the first public campus in Dailekh district and offers diploma courses to over 300 students in humanities, social sciences and education under the affiliation of the Tribhuvan University. It is hoped that the new buildings with Indian-assistance at these two campuses will add valuable capacity for their educational needs and serve the requirements of their growing number of students.

Conveying the message of Ambassador of India during these functions, Counsellor (Economic Cooperation) reiterated India's commitment to extend all possible assistance to the people and Government of Nepal in their endeavour for peace and development. He underlined the importance of educational infrastructure for Nepal's future development and highlighted the primacy being given to the education sector in the India-Nepal Economic Cooperation Programme. He emphasized that all the energies of the Nepali people and their leaders at present were being directed towards holding the Constituent Assembly elections in a free and fair manner, to enable the people of Nepal to decide their own destiny, the task of developing and providing a better life for the people of Nepal must go side by side, and in this endeavor, as always, India will walk with Nepal at every step.

These projects are part of more than 265 large and small projects currently being realized under the India-Nepal Economic Cooperation Programme in the sectors of education, health, community development and infrastructure covering all the districts of Nepal with an outlay of over NRs.21.5 billions.
