Indian Assistance of NRs.14.97 Million for School in District Chitwan

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on January 17, 2008 by the Embassy of India, Kathmandu with the District Development Committee, Chitwan and Shree Rastriya Primary School in Sultana Khairahani VDC -5 of district Chitwan for providing a grant assistance of NRs.14.97 million for construction of a double storied school building, under the India-Nepal Economic Cooperation Programme.

Shree Rastriya Primary School was established in 1955. The school is presently running classes for over 300 students (of which about 48% are girls) in a ramshackle condition building. The new infrastructure being constructed with the assistance of the Government of India would provide the school with much needed and improved space for its growing number of students and help the school in upgrading to lower secondary level.

Under the MOU, an oversight committee consisting of representatives from the school management committee, DDC and District Education Office will be constituted to oversee the project for its effective and timely implementation.

This is the forth development project undertaken by the Government of India in District Chitwan in recent years under the India-Nepal Economic Cooperation Programme and overall is part of more than 265 large and small projects currently being realized with the Indian assistance in the sectors of education, health, community development and infrastructure covering all districts of Nepal with an outlay of over NRs.21.5 billion.
