The Hon’ble Foreign Minister of Nepal H.E. Shri Upendra Yadav inaugurated the Camp Office of the Embassy of India at Biratnagar today, Tuesday, 23rd September 2008 for facilitating movement of Nepali goods and vehicles to India and from the Eastern region of Nepal to the Central and the Western regions of Nepal. The Office has been opened in response to an urgent request by the Government of Nepal, reiterated during the recent visit of the Hon’ble Prime Minister of Nepal to India, to address the difficulties being faced by Nepalese in obtaining necessary permits after the Kosi floods damaged the East-West highway. The Joint Press Statement issued during the visit of the Hon’ble Prime Minister of Nepal to India incorporates the agreement of the two sides to open the office to facilitate movement of Nepali vehicular traffic through India for improved access to other parts of Nepal. Speaking on the occasion, the Hon’ble Foreign Minister of Nepal thanked the Government of India for responding with urgency to the request of the Government of Nepal and said that this gesture indicated that the pain of the people of Nepal is felt by the people and Government of India as their pain. The Camp Office has temporarily been located in the building housing Morang Chamber of Industries, Shahid Marg, Teenpaini, Biratnagar (current contact telephone No. 021-525 712). The Camp Office is expected to greatly facilitate the movement of Nepali vehicles to India, and through India to other parts of Nepal, and thus ameliorate the difficulties being faced by Nepalese, including trade and transport entrepreneurs, in the aftermath of recent Kosi floods. |
