A Memorandum of Understanding was signed on August 27, 2008 by the Embassy of India, Kathmandu with District Development Committee, Kailali and Geta Eye Hospital, Dhangadhi, Kailali for providing a grant assistance of NRs.29.99 million for construction of three storied building for the Hospital under the India-Nepal Economic Cooperation Programme.
Established in 1981, under the “prevention and control of blindness” programme of Government of Nepal and World Health Organization, Nepal, Geta Eye Hospital is providing eye health care services to the people of Seti and Mahakali Zones under the umbrella of Nepal Netra Jyoti Sangh, which is a leading voluntary organization recognized by Government of Nepal as National Society for Comprehensive Eye Care. The present physical infrastructure of the hospital needs expansion in order to cater to the needs of increasing number of patients. The new three-storied building of the hospital being constructed with the assistance from the Government of India with indoor patient capacity of 144 beds will relieve the hospital of space constraint and enable it to provide improved and wider healthcare services in Seti and Mahakali zones.

The project will be implemented by District Development Committee, Kailali, while an oversight committee consisting of representatives from Hospital Management, District Development Committee and District Health Office will oversee the implementation of the project.

This is the fourth infrastructure project undertaken by the Government of India in district Kailali in recent years and overall, is among more than 290 large and small projects currently being implemented under the India-Nepal Economic Cooperation Programme in the sectors of education, health, community development and infrastructure covering all districts of Nepal with an outlay of over NRs.23 billions.
