Indian Assistance of NRs. 29.61 million for construction of School in Jhapa

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed on August 6, 2008 by the Embassy of India, Kathmandu with District Development Committee, Jhapa and Himali Higher Secondary School, Prithvinagar, Jhapa for providing a grant assistance of NRs.29.61 million for construction of a new double-storied building for the school under the India-Nepal Economic Cooperation Programme.

Established in 1971 as a Lower Secondary School, Himali Higher Secondary School in Prithvinagar VDC of district Jhapa, was upgraded to Higher Secondary level in the year 2000. The school is providing education to about 1000 students in a building which was damaged during the earthquake in 1988. The new double-storied building consisting of seventeen classrooms, as well as library and laboratory rooms, being constructed with the Indian assistance will ease the infrastructure constraint being faced by the school and provide a safe and conducive environment for learning and teaching. The project will be implemented by District Development Committee, Jhapa, with the participation of the school’s management committee in overseeing the implementation of the project.

This is among twelve infrastructure projects undertaken by the Government of India in district Jhapa in recent years and overall, is among more than 285 large and small projects currently being implemented under the India-Nepal Economic Cooperation Programme in the sectors of education, health, community development and infrastructure covering all districts of Nepal with an outlay of over NRs. 22 billions.
