Indian Assistance of NRs.5.24 Million for Restoration of Nepal Bhasha Parishad Premises in Kathmandu

At a public function held in Kathmandu on July 8, 2008, Ambassador of India, Shri Rakesh Sood formally launched the restoration of the Nepal Bhasha Parishad building in Naradevi, Kathmandu being undertaken with grant assistance of NRs.5.24 million from the Government of India.

Nepal Bhasha Parishad, established in 1951, with the objective of promotion of literature in Nepal Bhasha, is housed in a 150-year old building which is in need of urgent restoration so as to preserve an important monument to the history of one of the rich languages of Nepal. Restoration of the building, while maintaining its traditional architectural authenticity, will not only help preserve this important cultural monument of Nepal, but will also provide space for establishing a museum and educational centre related to the renowned son of Nepal, Kavi Kesari Chittadhar Hridaya, and his works. This project denotes the importance accorded by India to preserving and promoting rich heritage of Nepal, which also symbolises the strong and close bonds in the field of culture and literature between the two close and friendly neighbours.

This is the eleventh development project undertaken by the Government of India in district Kathmandu in recent years apart from 11 ambulances gifted by the Government of India in the district. Overall, the project is among more than 275 large and small projects currently being implemented under the India-Nepal Economic Cooperation Programme in the sectors of education, health, community development and infrastructure covering all districts of Nepal with an outlay of over NRs.21 billions.
